Ronnie Musgrove has taken more than $171,000 from Paul Minor, who has been convicted of bribery.
- According to his campaign finance reports, Ronnie Musgrove has taken at least $171,517 from lawyer Paul Minor. 1
- In a September 7, 2007, article, the Biloxi Sun Herald reported, "Prominent Coast attorney Paul Minor received an 11-year prison sentence and a $2.75 million fine this afternoon, with his two co-defendants -- former state court judges -- receiving lesser sentences in a judicial bribery case initiated four years ago." 2
- In a January 15, 2008, editorial regarding the Dickie Scruggs case, the Clarion-Ledger reported, "Its closest judicial similarity is last year's federal prosecution of former Circuit Judge John Whitfield and former Chancery Judge Wes Teel, convicted of bribery and mail fraud. Prominent Gulf Coast attorney Paul Minor was convicted of bribery and is serving an 11-year term.
"Those trials, too, exposed cozy relationships between lawyers and judges, exacerbated by Mississippi's system of electing judges so that they can legally take campaign contributions from those who appear before them. It's a system that allows giving state lawsuits to politically well-connected campaign donor-lawyers so they can enrich themselves with public settlements." 3
